Russo & Steele Chooses TelEvolve for auto auction connectivity

Russo and Steele, the country's premiere muscle car and fine auto auction company, has once again chosen TelEvolve to deliver seamless phone service to their annual auto auction site.  TelEvolve, along with its partner Western WiMAX, delivered 100 megabits of secure, guaranteed wireless internet service along with dozens of phones lines to Russo and Steele's auction site in Scottsdale, AZ.

With world-wide bidders watching live video feeds and calling to place bids, Russo and Steele required 100% reliability for its data and voice networks along with the ability to send very large video streams globally.  We were able to deliver this and fully satisfy the demands of their discriminating buyers with no interruptions in service and with more bandwidth than required.

TelEvolve is once again proud to have not just met, but greatly exceeded the expectations placed upon us for such a prestigious event, and we look forward to next year's auction.

New servers and expanded infrastructure

We've just completed a major expansion and renovation of our network and call processing systems.  With the new hardware and software, we're able to continue to provide our great reliability plus add yet more new features.  As part of our commitment to stay ahead of our customers' requirements, we're now able to support at least a five-times customer growth without any issue.  We've also increased our redundancy to prevent any hardware or internet outages from interfering with our reliable service.

Many customers have already been moved to the new systems, and we expect to complete the move within a few weeks.

All new servers and software

We believe in staying ahead of technology and being able to deliver the latest VoIP features and benefits.  Along with that, maximum uptime and reliablity is a major goal.  To accomplish both of these things, we have invested in new servers for all of our locations and new PBX software.  VoIP is a fairly new technology, and changes are happening fast.  We want to give you the latest capabilities, but it would be too risky to deploy new software on the working servers we have.  It's worth the investment for us to be able to give you the latest benefits while assuring we don't impact your service in any way.

Some of you may hear from us in the coming weeks as we move you from the old servers to the new ones.  Others may just be moved without ever knowing it, depending on your existing configuration.  When the change is done we will be able to deploy additional features plus we will have three locations where calls can flow, assuring you of reliability.

Comparison diagram for dedicated voice bandwidth

It's hard to explain to non-technical customers the difference between a regular basic internet connection, one with QoS, and one with separate dedicated voice bandwidth.  I put together a diagram to help do that, so people can make an informed choice.  QoS and dedicated bandwidth cost more of course, and a basic connection works for many businesses, so there's not always a clear best choice.

Polycom wireless phones

We now offer the Polycom Spectralink Kirk wireless phone systems as a useful addition to your TelEvolve hosted PBX.  The Kirk phones span a range that will cover any business' needs.  Besides the typical office handsets, we have two industrial models that can stand up to abuse like drops, water splash, dust, and are even certified for use in an explosive atmosphere.  The Kirk 2010 handset is inexpensive with basic features and functionality, and excellent range.

A variety of base units are available to support up to 1500 handsets.  Range is excellent, with one base covering most small businesses or warehouses.  Repeaters and additional bases can be deployed to extend range and capacity of the system.

Because these phones use the well-proven DECT system, they are extremely reliable.  Battery life is measured in days of standby, and most have a full day of talk time.

You can now show your office Caller ID from your cell phone

We've created a way for our customers to be able to show their office Caller ID number and name when they make outbound calls from a cell phone.  This works with any phone that has calling card functionality or with calling card add-on software.  For example, the "Calling Card" application available for the iPhone works great with this.

As usual, this is a no-cost value-added feature for our customers.  To get more information on how to use this, see the FAQ info.

I survived Astricon 2008

The annual Asterisk user's conference is over.  I had my brain filled with exciting things like SS7 and ISDN protocol signalling, the nuances of the PRI protocol stack in Asterisk, and the new T.38 features in Asterisk 1.6.  The T.38 capabilities will allow us to do fax over the internet (FoIP or Fax over VoIP).  This means that we can provide fax numbers anywhere in the US and Canada.  I'll be setting up a test server for this soon.
