Frequently Asked Questions > What is Voice over IP (VoIP)? How is it different from regular phone lines? > How is it different from regular lines?
VoIP doesn't require any "lines." There are no physical cables or connections associated with phone numbers and phone calls. This means we can freely associate as many phone numbers as you'd like with your system. We can assign specific numbers to people, or special functions like customer support. We can give you numbers that originate in any city in the US, giving you the appearance of having a local office. VoIP phones can be moved freely, so there is never a move charge. You can also use your VoIP phone at home or even while traveling. Many customers have phones at home which operate exactly like their office phones with three-digit extension dialing and all the usual office features.
Because there is no "line" charge and the cost of a cable to your office for each line, we can afford to provide this service for a much lower cost than standard lines. We can also scale capacity as you need it, immediately, without any on-site visits or the cost of adding more cabling to your office.
VoIP uses your existing high-speed internet connection for all of your calls. We can put dozens of calls on the typical small-business DSL connection.
